Today is Halloween in the US. A day for kids to walk around in costumes of various styles and ask for candy. I sit here watching the families walking by as I hand out the candy and think about all of these people in this world. What could their life be like? Are they happy? To imagine everyone in this world having different experiences and living different lives. And each one pushing through, trying to find their happiness. We walk around in our little bubbles not realizing that someone is also going through something. What would this world be like we all just understood this?
Respect
Someone had asked me one time if another person had made me mad. You see, I look at the world differently than most. Even if I have never met you before, I will be very respectful. Because I don’t know what your day was like. You could have just been fired or yelled at by a loved one. I just happen to be the one person you saw next. Does it make it right? No. But it doesn’t mean I don’t understand it.
Understand
I have had friends that were not feeling well, and they started getting short and testy with those around them. Is it right? No. Each person is tested in ways the rest do not understand. Doesn’t mean they don’t deserve some form of care. Are there people out there that just like to be angry and mean? Probably. But I don’t have to be one of them. I would rather be the person that doesn’t add to their already bad day. That person that allows their feelings affect my day.
Open your eyes
We become blinded by what is around us and all we work through and fight against, that we forget there are other people fighting just as hard. Don’t forget to check on your coworkers, your friends, and your loved ones. Especially those that appear to have a good life. They may surprise you. And you may be that one person they needed at that time. Because, coming from experience, sometimes it just takes one person to change their life. Someone to tell you that you are not alone, and it is okay to not be okay today.
So, as I sit out here handing out the candy to the little kids, I offer a simple gesture to the adults. A little smile, maybe some laughter. A gesture to say, you are doing a good job. Hang in there and it will be okay. So, I tell you that you are enough. You are strong and you will make it through. I believe in you.
Happy Halloween to all of my US friends. And have a wonderful day to all of you in the world.
