Exploring the fabric of our stories one character at a time.

I find myself dwelling on everything that stresses me out that I forget one other aspect. I am not the only one that is impacted. Daily I deal with insecurities, depression, and anxiety. And I know that I am not the only one that fights mental health battles. But I forget that those around me and interact with me are also impacted by my mental health. It is not just me that feel the effects of my mental health battles.

Family

My family are the closest people around me every day. My temperament on any given day effects how the atmosphere of the house is. Because if I am in a dark depression, my family will need to react accordingly to either help me or to leave me alone. Having your child see you depressed is not something any parent wishes. We will do anything and everything to hide that side so all they see is the happy and loving parent. This doesn’t always work, though.

Friends

Friends will reach out and check on us. They will try to cheer us up and help us through the rough times of our lives. If you have one of those good friends, they are probably trying to help take on some of the strain in your life too. But then there may be some that just cannot handle the situation and find themselves looking to walk away from the friendship.

Everyone Else

And then there is the external people, like your coworkers, school teachers and classmates, sports teams, and others. These are people who are counting on you to complete tasks and support the overall group. And when you are battling anxiety or depression and not to your full potential, the remainder of the group will feel the strain.

All together fighting

This is just to make all of us realize that while we fight these demons every day, there are others that may be fighting with us. They may be standing next to us so we have a place to lean on. Or they may be trying to give us some of their energy and love too. We are not the only ones in this battle. Plus, we are not the only ones that fight similar battles. The stress may feel stronger knowing this, or it may ease the strain for you. But always remember that you are not alone in this world as you take your steps forward each day.
