GENRES OF MUSIC FULL OF POWER AND EMOTIONS

The melody sounds the familiar. The voice is different. No, the voice is quiet. What am I listening to? My song that has carried me through some of the hardest times is different. This version hits deeper, stronger.

STARTING THE DAY WITH MUSIC

Every morning, almost without fail, I wake up to music in my head. Not necessarily a song I have heard recently. Not much sense in the reasoning the song plays through. There are days when more than one song plays over and over. Some days, I get just a piece of the song or two playing. And everyday that I have music on my mind, I am at peace.

LIFE WITH MUSIC

Music has been a part of my life since I was a child. My father loves music as well and taught me young to enjoy its beauty. Whether singing hymns in church, listening to the radio in the car, (trying) to learn to play the piano, music calms me. Even now as I type away, I have my music playing to keep my mind focused on my task. All different types of music hit me for different reasons.

GENRES

Definition of Genre

Over 1,300 genres of music in the world. Imagine your favorite song covered in each of those styles. Many songs today have been covered in various styles by various artists. Your favorite song by a Country Music artist covered (remade) by a Rock artist can give that song a new edge. The emotions portrayed through the lyrics can give you a different emotion in your life. Think of your favorite song now covered by a String Quartet. No lyrics, but now feel… Feel the power in the tune from each instrument. Close your eyes and welcome each note.

POWER OF ALL MUSIC

There is no wrong way to sing a song. (Well, there is the “out-of-tune” way.) Whether the song is of Rock, Country, Indie, Christian, Instrumental, or any of the many other genres, the song still gives power to you in your world. The power of emotions and strength and love. Power to heal, to feel, to be able to cry. A song has the power to release.

CAN YOU LIVE WITHOUT MUSIC

Many years ago, I was asked, if you were faced with one room having only a TV and one room having only a radio. What room would you walk into? For me, without hesitation, I am already walking to the radio. My husband can give the remote to our TV and tell me I can watch whatever I want. I tune it to Pandora (Smart TV), and I could sit there listening to music all day. And yes, I am one of those that wishes MTV or VH1 would play music videos again.

MY MUSIC

I personally have found that Instrumental music of artists like Vitamin String Quartet, 2Cellos, Brooklyn Duo, give my mind a rest. Focusing on my writing (as I am now). I will even play this while reading or studying. However, driving to work, I usually have Rock music playing. Artists like Breaking Benjamin, Staind, Shinedown, and many others. This genre gives me power to wake up my day. I am usually singing loud and proud in my car.

Times can bring heartache, pain, and just plain stress. Those times, I find I am turning to Christian, Pop or a softer side of Rock. Artists like Griffin Peterson, James Arthur, Andy Grammer and Alec Benjamin give me the peace I need. This music fills me with an acceptance that I am not alone.

LET’S SHARE OUR LOVE OF MUSIC

I wanted to share some of the music that has been shared with me. Each song has given someone in the world, power. Maybe some peace in their lives. Or it gave them strength to be able to carry on through a dark time. Below are some of the songs and artists that was shared with me. Hopefully, we can all use music in any of the many different genres, to feel the power of love.

With great warmth,
