For the last month I have been hearing stories of loved ones having strokes, heart attacks, broken bones, surgeries, loss of pets, loss of relationships, and overall depression. I hear about stories of survivals and glimpses of a brighter tomorrow. We are each going through moments of our lives that will set us back. Times when we feel life has it out for us. And then there are the few times that we can laugh. Enjoy the day with family and friends. No matter how much we want all of the good days, life has other plans. So how do we survive each day?

Today
I have a lot going on in my life right now. So much that I have had people ask if I am okay. Deep down, I know I will be okay. I know that I will make it out of this storm into a new day. I live my life each day holding onto the little times that make me smile. I may face a day or two of stress or sadness, but there is usually, no matter how small, a moment of love. Whether it is a hug from someone special, or even just a phone call. Maybe a simple text from a friend telling me that love me.
As my son grows up, I teach him that his day is whatever he makes it to be. You cannot stop life from trying to hit you down. But you can control how you respond to it. If he is faced with a bad test grade, then dig deep down and tell yourself, “I will not let it beat me.” But if you just sit there in the anger and frustration, then nothing will get better. You can control your expectation, your future.

Tomorrow
The best thing you can ever do for your health, your mental health, and ultimately your life is to never give up. When you are faced with adversity, challenges or battles, digging deep into your strength and saying, “I will not let it beat me.” Life is a dance. Two steps forward with one step back. Like a tango while the music constantly changes tempo. You adjust, learn, and adapt. You face fears by trying.
If you try to go through life expecting everything to go perfectly, you are in for a rude awakening. If you expect a fight, you will be ready for one. My husband once told me, “expect the unexpected.” And as I continue to live my life in this manner, I know I can handle any battle in front of me. I am not going to hide anymore. I have done that for too long. I know I have strength and my support team behind me. Their love sees me through.
