Such a Long Day
You walk in the door from a long day at work, school, just life in general. There they are. So happy to see you every time. Those big brown eyes staring right at you. Just like that, your day stress begins to melt away. Such a powerful feeling, an unconditional love just for you. No other reason. Only that you are the one to walk through that door.
Animals have a gift that even the smartest human doesn’t fully understand. A gift to know that a simple brush of fur, a purr at the right time, a nuzzle of a nose, just to silently tell you that everything will be okay. That bird in its cage knows that a chirp in the right tone, or that piglet running to you, knows that a little oink and snort of its nose can brighten anyone’s day. The powerful love a pet, brushing the stress and anxiety away. News in Health article: “Power of Pets”
Stressful days
When I am having a rough day, I can sit on my bed and within minutes one or both of my beagles will hop next to me and lay their heads on my legs. Closing their eyes, they silently tell me that they love me and will always be with me. With that, my stress eases up and I can take that breath I needed all day.
Last night I could see my neighbor looking a little worn out from her day. We sat and talked while the kids played in the yard. When another neighbor’s little dachshund came running over and hopped into her lap, I watched her face light up. Just a small, simple animal as a puppy to hop in a lap to lighten the load.
Sometimes it is not even the love of your pet. I have family that supports their local Equestrian center and found the horses to be that shoulder they needed. The unconditional love and respect that these fine creatures share with our world in unmistakable. Being able to converse with these creatures as if they hold all of the answers, gives our lives a small escape from the daily grind.
Love of All Animals
Animals of all sorts have a strength in each of them to hold some of the weight of your world. Many are chosen to care for anyone that could use a little extra love. With some training and that dog can help you through your anxiety or your depression. Although, I have not been able to be a part of this, I know there are hospitals and assisted living facilities that share the rewards of puppies and dogs with their guests. Think about when you were in grade school and had that class pet. My son has his own class pet, a hamster named Coco. I see in my own child’s eyes, the happiness and brightness of his days as he talks about this little animal. A gift of hope and love makes a day shine that much brighter.
Stress and anxiety can seep into your world so easily. These two and four legged creatures share your burdens to always return love to your day. Take a minute and hug your own pet. Go to the animal shelter and spend some time with these magnificent animals. Even go to the zoo and reach out. Those tails wag and shake for a reason. Dusting away your stress so that you can shine again.
With great warmth,
