Emotions are not weak but strength

I have been listening to some videos about ADHD and someone mentioned how everyone needs time to decompress their emotions and stress. We all have them. Emotions that build up and we have no outlet or a way to release. Whether it is to scream or just sit quietly, it is needed.

Any Age

My son has ADHD. He has big feelings and even bigger expressions. I want to find a way to help him regulate everything he feels. But knowing it is hard to regulate my own emotions, it is 100 times harder for him. For those that may not understand, ADHD is like having 100 TV screens on at the same time and knowing what show is playing on all of them.

Here I am with so many feelings and emotions that my mind shuts down. I just had a friend ask me how I was doing. I don’t know how to answer her. Because, I had moments of a good day, many moments of frustration, and too many moments of just nothing.

Use

Emotions are a part of us. Some people hide their emotions away in fear of being called weak. Others show their emotions without knowing how to control them. No matter how you manage your emotions, they are there. The hard part is not letting them control us.

Lately I have been finding that I don’t have the time in my day to relax. Finding every moment from the moment I wake up to the minute I fall asleep, filled with attention to someone else. My safe space is driving in my car alone. It is where I can have peace. With my music, my thoughts, and no other distraction. It is where I find that a little “car-therapy” goes a long way. But I cannot take long drives every day. So, my drive to work and home is the only time. However, that is also the only time I have to check in on my family I don’t see often.

Controlling

We all have them. Emotions. Those little and big feelings that can easily control us if we allow. Just remember that it is not weak to have emotions. It is strength. Power to show the world that we will not allow our emotions to dictate our life. By allowing ourselves to relax for a few minutes or an hour, we release energy. Energy that is misdirected and can make us tired. So, use your energy to bring in the positive and the love.
