Ever notice how you having a bad day affects people around you? The day may be brighter one day or cloudier the next. The way an individual’s mood or behavior shifts can impact those around them. Daily experiences can influence one’s actions, such as driving or communication style, which in turn affect perceptions. Influence is not isolated; others are also affected, much like a line of dominos changing direction when touched.

Stress
I have been having some very stressful times in life lately. Long workdays that blended into nights and weekends. My attitude was tight and short. Trying to focus on every last detail. But it wasn’t until my mental crash that I realized my influence on those around me. My family saw most of my temperament. Constantly wanting to be alone, hiding from the world. My son just wanted to be close to me, and I needed space. The entire home environment was very thick in stress. But that’s not all.

Falling
Did you know that your pets react not only by your tone, but also by your attitude and wellbeing? How many times do animals get very protective of their owners when they are hurt? Pets are also sensitive to their owners’ tones, attitudes, and wellbeing. Animals respond to their owners’ emotions, becoming protective when they sense harm, or showing concern during significant life events. Pets might mirror their owners’ emotional states, develop signs of anxiety or agitation if surrounded by negativity.

The Domino Falls
When you are happy, does it feel like the day is brighter? And when you are angry or sad, it seems dingy or cloudy? Our mental health branches out through every aspect of our life. Emotional states can shape the perception of daily life, whether it appears more positive or negative. Mental health affects all aspects of life between the negative and positive events. The hardest part is breaking the domino effect of the negative fall so that we can continue to build on the positive in our lives.
