This past Monday I had a mental crash. The stress of work and life came tumbling down on top of me. It started with a small mistake that had me spiraling out in my mind. Yesterday, a friend of mine was having a breakdown under the stress she was facing with her family. Not being able to help more or feel like she was making a difference. And someone else had told me that they were struggling with feeling like they mattered. It doesn’t matter who you are, what age or gender. It is true that we all need a little work.

Support
When anyone is faced with trauma, stress, frustration or any negative event in their life, we all feel like we are alone in the fight. And when I was pregnant with my son, so many told me that it takes a village to raise a child. So why do we feel we are alone caring for our families, and even more, caring for ourselves? It takes a village to raise and a village to support. We are not alone. We have friends, family, coworkers, and the community to support us.
Don’t be Afraid
When I was in my spiral, it was very difficult for anyone to calm me down. The constant feeling of being a disappointment, letting my wonderful bosses down, the possibility of losing a job that I love so much. It was so overwhelming that I couldn’t break out of the despair. Some of my friends will tell me that all I have to do is talk. But when you are deep in the darkness, it is difficult to formulate words as to how you feel. Probably because you don’t fully understand it yet. However, we need to remember that even if we cannot explain what is happening, we can ask for support. Ask for a hug or some space. Use your words for what you need at that moment. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Not alone
We are not alone in the fight for mental health. Not alone in fighting depression and anxiety. Never alone in needing help and comfort. Everyone has a life story. A chapter they wish they could turn the page. Just because you see someone that is laughing and smiling all the time, you don’t know what they really feel on the inside. We all struggle in some way. The grass is not always greener on the other side. Because it will always be greener, where you water it. Share the love. We all need a little work.
