I was having a chat with a colleague recently and the topic of mental health came up. We talked about what each of us went through in life and our family and relationships we had. In the middle of the conversation, she tells me, “Mental health and depression and anxiety are not something that comes one day and gone the next. It is part of life. I would be amazed if I found one person that has gone through their entire life not feeling some kind of mental health disorder.”

Everyone has feelings. We all get sad, angry, happy, and every mix in between. The first step is to understand and accept that it is OKAY TO NOT BE OKAY. Life happens. And there are times that life is too much for us to handle. We don’t need to be Superman or Wonder Woman all the time. All we need to do is be us.
Blessing
This colleague also made a statement that she believes it is a blessing to get up out of bed each day, go to work and come home to bed. I cannot imagine what she has experienced. I only know what I have. But we both view it as a blessing.

Every person around the world is living a life that is full of struggles, accomplishments, pain and happiness. Offering a smile, a hug, a simple acknowledgement that you understand can make a difference. And most of all, recognizing that we are not the only ones that fight against life. The only ones that suffer, or are wary, or are lost. Accepting that it is okay to not be okay today is the 1st step in finding a healthier life.
