These last couple of days, a few people had their lives turned upside down. The events leading up to it and the choices made after added to the challenge. So, what happened? Well, my husband may have had a stroke. And now his life, mine, and his son’s has changed. What happened? Stress.

The Beginning
Let’s start from the times before. Growing up, many of my generation was trained to focus on work. Watch how many days you take off. Always be available and be a team player. Work was important as it took up much of your daily life. But now-a-days, companies are starting to recognize the imbalance of work and life. But it is still the person’s direct responsibility to stand up for their own health and mental health.
Stress too plays a big factor in our health. When a person is stressed about family, work, life in general, their bodies and organs get tighter. Headaches, muscles aches, fatigue, these are just a few things a person will find when they are constantly dealing with stress. Then eating habits change, ambitions, motivation, it all changes. Stress impacts more than people realize.

What Happens
When you add an unhealthy lifestyle and stress, it becomes a ticking time bomb. And for my husband, that time bomb hit this past weekend. He woke up Monday morning unable to move his right arm and leg. He has no other symptoms of a stroke, fortunately. And over these last 2 days, the weakness seems to be improving slightly. So after talking with the doctor, we are treating as if he did until we learn more.
You know the phrase “hindsight is always 20/20”? Someone is realizing that more so now. It is easy to try to blame something or someone. It is easy to fall into the hole of shoulda, woulda, coulda. But it is also easy to go from one extreme to another.
This is why I talk about finding a balance in everything we do. Balance within our diet. Managing our mental health with our physical health. Finding a way to live a healthy life to the fullest. Because when we focus on one and not the other, something like a stroke or worse can happen. And promise me that if you ever find yourself in a medical emergency situation like losing mobility, see a doctor and not ignore it for work. You don’t do anyone any good if you are not around to try.
