It has been a heck of a week. Loaded with stress and frustration. There were times I could handle it and times I wanted to cry or scream. And it took action from me to get through it. I couldn’t rely on anyone else to make it go away. That doesn’t mean I didn’t need help though. Without support and outlets, all of that stress would hit hard. It can take little effort or be a massive undertaking.

Changing
I was talking with my mom the other day about everything I am dealing with. She was having a hard time understanding why I couldn’t just fight back and stand my ground. Why couldn’t I snap back and be strong against the stress. Simple, I am not that person. Complicated because for me to get through the stress, I need to change how I think and feel. I cannot flip a switch and be something I am not. So instead, I am faced with stress much longer than an average is. Making me, what many have called me, a saint.

A Way Out
My family has been a little stressed out dealing with a school project. A situation filled with last-minute ideas and tasks to be completed. Finally, the project was completed. However, there was a lot of stress caused by what “should have been done”. The stress affected us on a physical level. Getting headaches every night, clenching our teeth, looking for comfort food and drink to make us calmer. These were negatively affecting us and we needed to find a way to stop it.
Focus
It took me talking with friends and family to work through a lot of the stress I faced this week. A chance to look at situations from a different perspective and come up with a comparable path for me to face it. I was able to find an outlook on my situation and an approach that worked for me. And it took having a positive outlet in my life to redirect my mental focus. A way for my mind to concentrate on a different topic for a little while and release the tension my body was holding.

Life
Stress will be in our everyday lives. Facing deadlines and challenges that may not be favorable. How we handle our stress will provide a quality-of-life level. Unfortunately, too many people may turn to substances to break away from stress. Although not initially bad but can too easily lead to further pain. Others turn to outlets of exercise. Done carefully can be extremely beneficial. But the basic need for handling stress is a good support team and a solid outlet. You have these two things, and you will be able to manage effectively.
