Exploring the fabric of our stories one character at a time.

As you are going through your daily routine, you start to notice that something is off with how you are feeling. You don’t know why you feel this way. Or where it came from. All you know is you are not feeling good. Not happy. Maybe even depressed. This is a point where you have a very important decision. To say something or stay quiet. Get help or hide from it. When you know there is something wrong, then it is time to get help. (Lifeline)

Asking for help

Asking for help is not easy to do. Pride itself can get in the way. Embarrassed to have someone think you are damaged. But you are not damaged. You are not broken. What you are is human. It is okay to not be okay for a little while. It is when you have dark thoughts or the feeling goes on for too long, it is time for help of others. (Better Help)

Another thing that stops people from seeking help, not knowing who or where to go to. I have friends that I talk to about my life and how I feel. But I will only go to certain friends that I can fully trust, to really talk about the deeper issues in my life. It is understanding whom I trust and whom I cannot. If you find yourself unable to talk to a friend or family member, there are now online tools and sites that offer a safe environment to help you. (MHA)

Get Help

I ask…no I beg of you that if you ever find yourself in a dark place like this, do not stay quiet. Do not hide away from the world. Each person in this world is beautiful and special. You deserve to have a life that is filled with love and smiles. If you hide away, you hide your brightness and beauty.

I am keeping this post short this week because I want people to understand that there are opportunities and options to getting help. Especially with the internet available, you have choices. And if anyone ever says the riddle, “sticks and stones may break my bones, words will never hurt me,” remind them that of this. Words may not physically hurt, but instead they provide one of the worst pains a human mind can experience. So be kind to others. And always be kind to yourself.
