Comfortable in the dark, only to want more light

I have discovered so much about myself as I travel this road.  One thing has me puzzled. Why am I finding it so hard to be happy? I still look in the mirror, only to see someone that could look better. Thinking about what I do at work and throughout my day, only to feel like I am nothing special. The constant feeling of wanting to be more, better, prettier, and special. Almost as if I am comfortable here. That is the problem. Ask any of my family, my friends, my coworkers, and they will tell you about just how …

Products of childhood or the choices we make

When you were a child, did you have dreams of being a doctor, a teacher, the president, or a ballerina? Did you dream about flying in space or putting on a show for your family and friends? Did your parents and teachers tell you things like, “you can be anything you want to be when you grow up.” And when you grew up, are you the doctor you dreamed about? Maybe a teacher? Or did you become that ballerina in the fancy outfits? Are we products of our childhood, or the choices we made along the way? Kids Confidence and …

When needing so little means so much

Tired from running around after the kids. Exhausted from the constant demand and questions at work. Drained from the push to do more, be more, show more. Suddenly, the time comes. The desire to step away. Hit the pause button for a little while. Go off grid for some time. Just some peace and quiet to calm the racket in your head. Having the need to break away from the constant can mean so much. Robotic We have all been there. The days are beginning to blend together. The stress of life is so much that we forget what happened …

Another Year is Another Chance

In just a few days we are going to say goodbye to 2022 and hello to the new year. If you are like me, these last 365 days have tested you, pushed you, blind-sided you, and maybe even lifted you. But the best thing about 2022, if you are sitting there reading this now, the best thing is…you survived! It is another year you survived and now you are being given another chance. The Old Year I was talking with a friend recently when I admitted that this year, I have changed in so many ways. The past year, I …

Carry your legacy through footprints of life

The year is getting closer to closing out. A few years ago, I decided to start work on myself and my mental health. This year has come with some of my greatest challenges and struggles with a few accomplishments tossed in. The weight of the world kept rushing in to try to stop me. But each day I still got out of bed. I went into work. Finished my schoolwork. And then continued to take care of my family. So many friends and family telling me about how strong I was. Yet, constantly feeling weak. What do I want to …

The weight of winter time on us all.

This time of the year is one of my favorites. The winter season brings colder temperatures, possible rain or snow. The holidays we celebrate that bring our families and friends closer. Then there are all of the lights and smells of the season. Lights on the houses as we drive by, scenes of merriment. Smells of cocoa and cider with a touch of peppermint. Winter has always been one of my favorite times of the year. But there are so many people in the world that find this time to be one of the hardest. Harsh of winter Seasonal depression …

Understanding depression a little better.

It doesn’t matter if you are young, old, male, female, or what race you are. Depression can find its way into your life. But it is, like everything else we encounter, how we handle, embrace, or ignore our depression or someone else’s. I was about to write that there is no right or wrong way to handle depression, but that is not entirely true. However, there are positive and negative ways. That is what will determine the end result. Depression Types Depression does not just hit when you experience something that makes you sad. There are several types of depression. …

Choose you, choose now

We all have one of those days where the emotions tend to boil over. A day or two that the frustration is high and there seems to be no end in sight. Maybe a time that you just want to hide, scream, or cry. Yeah, we all have one of those days. I know because I am trying to get through one now. Where I just want to walk away and give up, kind of days. Choose to keep going How many times have we been here, trying to get through the day? Some of us feel that these days …

Choose to be responsible for yourself

I came across a video on social media about a mom talking about how she chooses not to tell her kids that she is proud of them…at first. She goes on to describe her childhood, sounding similar to mine. She talks about how she would hear the statement “I am so proud of you” and immediately clings to needing to hear it all of the time.  By changing how she praises her kids by saying “Are you proud of it?” it allows the child to learn about self-love. She would then either agree saying “I am too” or if they …

Power within us to be resilient

As many of you know by now, I recently graduated with my masters. This morning, I participated in the ceremony at the college campus. Throughout the ceremony, the common topic emphasized was resilience. The ability to overcome tough events throughout our lives. Too many of us are fighting some tough times in our lives right now. But for me, it is not just resilience that got me where I am today. Society I was discussing how society has changed so much over the last 20-plus years with my husband this morning. Finding now, how we are facing individuals looking for …
