Exploring the fabric of our stories one character at a time.

How quickly it all can change

Yesterday was a rough night for me. And this week had been rough for a few of my friends. It was almost scary to watch how one moment I was having a good day and truly feeling good. Only to have it change and I end up in a fight of the mind with depression. Just how quickly my mental state can change within seconds.

Quick

My situation was with a work project. I was managing the project closely and making sure everyone was fully informed. A simple misunderstanding had my world turned upside down. Emotions flooded in. Frustration, fear, exhaustion, and panic. The element of unknown had my mind trapped until I was able to get clarification this morning. And as easy it was to fall into the dark, climbing out was harder. But after a little time, I had a clearer mind again.

For my friends, grief of losing someone they cared about (not in death) and another had a trigger of a traumatic event. Both found themselves trapped in their minds unable to find the glimmer of light of hope. They both found their strength and used their support teams to find their path back to the lighter days.

Life

Life will find ways to test our strength and minds constantly. What you see as a perfectly great day can change in seconds. And it is all on how you control your acceptance of the situation. My son and I had one of our life talks and it came to both of us saying that life is one big choice.

Choice

Choice is powerful. You can choose your path in life. Choose the way you look, talk, and act. But most of all, you can choose how you accept or don’t accept the events in your life. That one is much harder to do…well for some. Those that know me personally would consider me very patient. But it’s not patience. It is choosing to not react in a manner that has no benefit to me or the situation. Just the hardest part for me is the overthinking or pulling apart and assuming reactions.

Change

We are going to be challenged throughout our lives every day and every moment. How we choose to face the day may give us some peace. Knowing we are not alone and have people that support us may give us some peace. Finding inner strength and seeing how beautiful we really are may give us some peace. Keep fighting, moving forward, and standing tall. Together we can make it through.
