How many times have you lied to someone about how you feel about something? Have you ever smiled just to keep the attention off of you? Or just stayed quiet and moved throughout your day? It is very easy to hide away your emotions. Do it long enough and you become really good at it. Go too long and you start to lose yourself. It is okay to not be okay. And it is okay to speak up and say you are not okay.
When I was a child, I remember riding in the back of my parents car watching all of the houses go by. I would think about all of the different kinds of people that could be living in those homes. Was it a small family or a big one? Did they have kids? Or was it someone in their 20’s starting on their own. And then I would think about the kind of life they could have. Were they happy? Or were they just trying to survive?

We talk to many different people every day. Some we know and some we don’t. And I can guarantee that every single person has struggled with something in their life at some point. They may even be struggling now. Can you tell? I know I can’t.
For some people, having a friend reach out and check on you means the world. Some people could just use a smile from a few people to brighten their day. How easy it is to be kind to someone, especially understanding that you don’t know what they are going through. It is okay to not be okay. So let someone know. Let them in. Staying quiet about how you feel does not make life any easier. Trust me. Because I have been quiet for too long.
