Since I started this journey nearly 6 years ago, I have focused on my thoughts, my feelings, and my issues. And the more I discuss what I am doing with this blog, the more I find others sharing similar thoughts and feelings. Others include men, women, young children, teenagers, adults of all ages. No matter the race, age, or gender, mental health affects us all. We all bleed the same and we all need to feel loved.

Same and Different
Today I was talking with my son about life. I told him that life is full of choices. How you live, what you do and say is all choices we make. He tried to explain how someone can “make someone do something”. I then reminded him; they are all choices. But I was wrong. There are examples of not being able to control thoughts, feelings, verbal and movements. I lost focus because I thought I was right. And without compassion, tried to make my son think the same. When we are faced with someone struggling with depression or anxiety, are you one quick to judge? Do you try to push “you should do this” or “I would have done that” on them?
I had a friend the other day tell me that they lost a family member suddenly. The person was in their 30s and died in their sleep. To top it off, the 7-yr old son was the one to call the emergency. How do you comfort that friend? Do you give advice on how to handle grief? Or do you just offer a hug?

Living
I live my life with respect for every single person I have met or yet to meet. I have this for one main reason. I have no clue what your life was like up until this moment. Every person lives a life they have fought for and fought against. Some fought against drugs, alcohol, and other addictions. Many fought against people they thought they could trust. Still, some fought against internal demons. Life doesn’t discriminate when it challenges you. I just wish humanity wouldn’t. Because whether you are 12 yrs old or 50, mental health will be just as important. Don’t let anyone ever tell you otherwise.
