Exploring the fabric of our stories one character at a time.

Not the same, just different people

I have not met one person that is not dealing with some kind of stress in their life. They maybe having a good day today, but yesterday was a hard one. A good friend of mine is dealing with an ailing parent and all of the stress that comes with it. I know she is tired and frustrated. So, when I have my bad days, I feel bad for asking for comfort. Why am I feeling so bad when my friend has it worse?

Not Similar

You cannot compare your life to anyone else’s. You may have similarities in the events, but how you feel is completely different. I lost my dad to cancer a few years ago. She is losing her father-in-law in a similar way. But we are not the same. She has other factors she has to handle in her situation. Like there are no siblings to help her and her husband, like I did. So there is no comparison.

Lately I have been on autopilot just trying to manage my emotions and stress from day to day. On some days, the emotions are too much and I do not handle it well. My situation today is no comparison to my friend. But that does not mean it is any less important. Because it is important to me. That is what matters.

You Matter

Every person has or had something in their life that keeps them up at night. Or maybe they are worried, and it is affecting their daily lives. No matter what it is, it is important. Because it is important to them. Although it is difficult, we need to remember that we matter when we need help. Yes, some people are going through some extremely difficult times. And you worrying about if someone likes you, may not seem significant.

If you need help with anything that involves your emotions or mental health, it is significant. It matters because you matter. Your life matters. And your mental health matters. Don’t let anyone, including yourself, diminish the importance of your value. Everyone deserves to be listened to, cared for, and loved daily.
