My life lately has been full of stress and frustration. Every day I was trying to find just a small piece of … well peace. Nothing was working. Anytime I smiled, I was faced with another stress. And I was not able to see an end to the darkness. But recently, I had something wonderful come into my life. And just as fast, I felt better and lighter. What I wasn’t expecting was my family to say, “The house feels lighter now.” I didn’t realize how much I affected my village.

People
When we are faced with depression or anxiety, it is easy to believe we are the only ones affected. But that is a lie. Our mental health and emotions directly relate to our physical nature. When you are frustrated, have you ever accidentally snapped at a friend and didn’t mean to? The last time you were sad and hurt, did someone say something to you that made you cry harder?
Together
I have always said that there is a strong connection between mental health and physical health. But it is deeper than that. So many of us wear our emotions on our sleeves and it becomes much more visible than we realize. The outward feelings are felt by all of those around us. And it is not limited to friends and family. It can just as easily be someone you don’t even know.

Sometimes we can control ourselves before damage can occur. Too many times, we cannot. This is why it is very important to be aware of your emotions and feelings. Learn what your mind and body are telling you. Respect yourself and others to be cognizant of who and what is around you during those stressful times. And always try to bring forth more to the brighter days forward, especially when life tries to push you down.
